Nouveau label sur As Corpus Online Shop : nous sommes heureux d'accueillir Chief Inspector, label de pointe issu de la scène impro/avant-jazz parisienne au début des années 2000 et qui a depuis élargi son champ d'investigation, avec notamment le post-folk singulier de Centenaire. Now comes The Enemy, and you can hear clearly that the boys in the band went deeper into the forest. They wandered in quiet, silent glades, met with strange trees with weird ramifications and beds of electrical brambles: in seven tracks and half an hour of music produced with the help of sound engineer extraordinaire Miguel Constantino (Papier Tigre, Talibam) and mastered by Alan Douches (Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens, Mastodon...), Centenaire bring in mind at different moments the celestial pop of The Beatles or The Sea and Cake, Elliott Smith’s tetchy folk music or This Heat’s storms of steel. Here and there, a sequel of chords will remind you of Yo la Tengo, a vocal line will evoke the Canterbury School of progressive pop. Yet the most important questions remain: is it soft or violent music? Trivial pop or sheer melancholy? It’s hard to say; just as hard in fact as it is to attach Centenaire to other musical scenes, both in France and abroad. One sure thing, though: whether the music is acoustic, electric or electronic, nothing frightens them.

Aujourd'hui sort The Enemy, et Centenaire s'enfonce encore plus profondément dans la forêt, traverse de paisibles clairières silencieuses, croise des arbres aux ramifications étranges, et quelques massifs de ronces électriques. En sept titres et trente minutes de musique, réalisées avec l'aide de Miguel Constantino (Papier Tigre, Talibam) et masterisées par Alan Douches (Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens, Mastodon...), Centenaire évoque tour à tour la pop céleste des Beatles et de The Sea and cake, le folk inquiet d'Elliott Smith, les orages d'acier de This Heat. Ici et là, une suite d'accords rappelle Yo la Tengo, une ligne de chant renvoie à l'école de Canterbury. S'agit-il d'une musique douce ou violente ? Légère ou mélancolique ? Difficile à dire. Difficile, également, de raccrocher la musique de Centenaire à une quelconque scène française ou étrangère. Une chose est sure, l'acoustique, l'électrique, l'électronique: rien n'effraie vraiment Centenaire.

It’s still a bit too early in this big empty house. In the yard, an unsound choir seems to grin childishly and fishily to the neighbours around. Sarah Anderson and Luke Fischbeck, LUCKY DRAGONS, live in Los Angeles and have been recording for about 10 years albums (on Marriage Records, Upset the rhythm…) which are as extactic as well as precious.
Their new ep ‘Vrais noms/ True names' (limited to 350 copies + free mp3s) is available now on Atelier ciseaux records (Paris/ France). 9 tracks for less than 12 minutes, with an artwork by SUMI INK CLUB and screenprinted covers on recycled paper.
