| POKETT - The Peak
Active Suspension / ACD17 / CD / 15€
Sweet hereafter of a very much remarked and critically acclaimed debut that provoked echoes all around of the indie rock microcosm (in France, Belgium, Japan, Australia), The Peak is Pokett’s second album, ominous project of the versatile instrumentalist Stéphane Garry.
Hungry follower of a maniac songwriting that manages to be luxurious, challenging, classic and star-studded with microscopic experimentations at the same time, Pokett weaves folk pop sugary fabrics with elective kins (Elliott Smith, Jim O’Rourke, Wilco), embroidered with swarming sonic treasures (wood resonances, tiny magic sines, or elegiac strings) and weaved in complex architectures, without the songs ever giving up on the heart. Started with a full band (with Stéphane Laporte from Domotic, Sandrine Boyer, Laurent Vaissière from Paloma) in a full studio, completed in a laboratory, The Peak allows itself the most luxurious ambitions in arranging, heavy contrasts, from a sunny side ballad for piano and strings (the overture, « Party Crasher ») to a might pop song foliated with electronic bleeps (« Anything Today »), from emo escapism (« If You Ever ») to a grand final of weightless chorus.
Cyann (Cyann&Ben), Kumi Okamoto (The Konki Duet), Sébastien Roux (12K), Olivier Cavaillé (Sylvain Chauveau), Thousand (Thousand & Bramier) et Scalde all contributed to the project.
